BLUE SPRINGS HISTORY

e history of Blue Springs, is tied to the migration of settlers on their westward journey.  Named for the springs that took on a blue color in certain lights, the community of Blue Springs was organized as part of Jackson County in 1827.  Today, Blue Springs is one of the fastest growing communities in Missouri with more than 60,000 residents.  Blue Springs is conveniently located on Interestate 70 in the center of the Unitied States.  With three major highways intersecting the city, including I-70, Missouri 7 and US 40, the city is easliy accessible. CNN/Money and Money magazine ranked Blue Springs in the top 50 list of the 100 Best cities to Live in the United States in 2010.

The police protection of the city is provided by the Blue Springs Police Department.  There are 83 sworn officers in the city with 16 volunteers and 31 civilian employees.  Central jackson County Fire Protection District Provides fire and ambulance services to Blue Springs.  For more information www.cjcfpd.org.

BLUE SPRINGS SCHOOL DISTRICT - Education with Distinction

Nationally recognized, the Blue Springs R-IV School District earned Expansion Management Magazine's Gold Medal Award,its highest award for quality education and community resources and support.  In addition, the Blue Springs School District was singled out by the Wall Street Journal as one of the top school districts in the nation.  In addition to academics, both high schools offer 19 competitive athletic programs, ROTC, and a wide array of extracurricular academic clubs and organizations.  Athletic teams representing the district have won seven 4A State Championships since 1995.  The District has received the highest rating (AAA) for 38 consecutive years.  The District also has a multi-district special services center and Liggett Trail Education Center to serve handicapped and disabled children.

Jackson County Parks System, including lake Jacomo and Blue Springs Lake adds another 3,000 acres of parkland to our area.  Both lakes have full-service marinas, swimming beaches and shelter house famcilities. Golf facilities are available both in and around Blue Springs.

Lee's Summit is a city in Cass and Jackson Counties in the U.S. state of Missouri. The U.S. Census estimated the city's population at 84,208 in 2008.^[3] However, the city's development report estimated its population at 92,927 in 2009,^[4] making it the sixth-largest city in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area and the sixth-largest city in Missouri. In 2006 CNN/Money and Money magazine ranked Lee's Summit 44th on its list of the 100 Best Cities to Live in the United States.^[5] Then in 2010 the same list put Lee's Summit at #27 out of the top 100.
